Reading
Second graders will develop a lifelong habit of reading.
Through the use of the basal reading program, grade level chapter books, and a wide variety of literature.

Second graders will practice their manuscript letter writing and begin cursive writing.

Second grade students will develop and continue to strengthen mathematical concepts and problem-solving strategies.

• Addition and subtraction facts through 18
• Place value to 100
• Two-digit and three-digit addition and subtraction with/without regrouping
• Geometry-shapes
• Money and time
• Fractions

Science
Second graders will discover more about the world around them.
 
Students will:

• Plan and conduct an investigation to describe and classify different kinds of materials by their observable properties.
• Analyze data obtained from testing different materials to determine which materials have the properties that are best suited for an intended purpose.
• Make observations to construct an evidence-based account of how an object made of a small set of pieces can be disassembled and made into a new object.

 
Social Studies
